The news on Amazon potentially opening 400 bookstores drew a lot of attention Tuesday. This news came from Sandeep Mathrani, CEO of General Growth Properties Inc. Amazon opened its first and so far only brick and mortar store, a bookstore, in November. Called Amazon Books, the store is in Seattle’s University Village, an upscale outdoor mall north of the University of Washington that’s already home to thriving Apple and Microsoft stores.
If this plan is true, Amazon opening 400 bookstores, then the e commerce giant will become the second largest retail bookstore in the United States, the first is Barnes & Noble, which currently has 640 bookstores in 50 states.
According to Amazon however, “We don’t comment on rumors and speculation.”
Kevon Hills, vice president of research for StellaService said “Today Amazon can process refunds within a day or two, but cannot compete with retailers who offer ‘free return shipping’ by allowing shoppers to drop off a return at your neighborhood store. Having physical stores would give Amazon a way to offer free returns”
If there is smoke then there is fire. Since Amazon has not confirmed this news, lets just wait and see the developments. News from http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/news/2016/02/02/amazon-bookstores-300-400-sandeep-mathrani-general-growth-properties/79729242/
